TL;DR: A newly built bike path on Port-Royal Ouest in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville district is causing serious safety issues and hurting local businesses. We’ve received a legal opinion and are ready to file a lawsuit for an injunction. Our goal is to raise $30,000. Donations will be refunded if the goal isn’t met.
On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, TVA Nouvelles reported on a growing crisis in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, where a newly installed bike lane on Port-Royal Ouest is triggering public outcry.
In the footage, a cyclist is seen forced onto the sidewalk to avoid a car blocking the bike path while caught between two delivery trucks. According to local merchants, this happens every day.
😠 Why Merchants Are Angry:
-
No proper public consultation took place
-
Vital parking spaces for customers and suppliers were eliminated
-
People are receiving $170 tickets
-
Cyclists are at risk because they have no clear or safe path
The borough insists that consultations were held and that the bike path is here to stay.
⚖️ We’re Taking Legal Action
We have already obtained a legal opinion confirming we have a valid case. We are now ready to file a lawsuit against the City of Montreal, requesting an injunction to halt the work and force proper consultation with residents and business owners.
🎯 Funding goal: $30,000, which covers:
- Lawyer fees
- Taxes
- Court fees in case of loss
- Potential countersuit by the City

Cars block cyclists’ path: shopkeepers demand removal of bike path in Montreal
Yves Poirier, Wednesday, June 11 2025 14:51
Shopkeepers in an industrial district of Montreal are demanding the removal of a recently-developed bike path on rue Port-Royal Ouest.
TVA Nouvelles almost witnessed an accident on Wednesday morning when a vehicle obstructed the passage of a cyclist – a situation that several shopkeepers claim to observe every day.
Shortly afterwards, another cyclist had to maneuver to avoid the first truck occupying the bike lane.
At the same time, another delivery truck arrived to his left. Ahead of him, the cyclist spotted a car blocking his path. He was forced to use the sidewalk.
Shopkeepers interviewed by TVA Nouvelles expressed their discontent, denouncing the lack of public consultation, the removal of parking spaces and the $170 fines imposed on those who parked on the bike path.
The borough, however, maintains a contrary position, asserting that consultations did indeed take place and that the development is permanent.
